NEWS: Eve Upton joins the techUK Central Government Council

We’re proud to announce that Eve has been selected to be a member of the techUK Central Government Council for two years from January.

NEWS announcement

What is techUK?

It’s the UK’s technology trade association that champions technology’s role in preparing and empowering the UK for what comes next, delivering a better future for people, society, the economy and the planet.

BidCraft is an active member of techUK and sees great value from the influence and initiatives it powers. We encourage anyone in the technology industry in the UK to join because they will benefit from membership.

What is the Council?

To directly quote techUK, “The primary role of techUK’s Central Government Council is to represent technology suppliers who supply to Government, lead the debate on new technologies, optimise the use of existing capabilities and engage with departments and the centre. The council works to set the strategic direction of techUK’s Central Government Programme, reflecting techUK member priorities and providing a means for the public sector to engage with industry.”

Why did Eve want to give time to another board?

She says:

I want to make things better for my various communities – tech people, bidding people, citizens, SME, and the government people we all work with. I shall recycle my application words to explain…

To engage: throughout my career I’ve worked directly with central government teams using curiosity to drive understanding that makes procurement and delivery a success rather than a battle. I want to keep doing that using the influential position techUK has.

To represent: I want to discover more about what members want and act on it. As a director of APMPUK I’ve learnt the skills to champion member interests, ensuring diverse voices are effectively represented. We also need the council to stay effective – IoD Company Secretary training has given me a pub-bore level knowledge of governance I can use to support the team.

Market improvement: needs ideas and action. I know the challenges facing suppliers, having guided many through complex procurement landscapes. My professional obsession is making bidding/procurement easier. This means action to make the process fairer and simpler. This also means making large companies and SME work more effectively together – everyone hates bidding, let’s hate it a little less together.
